The Book Thief (Zusak Markus)

Liesel Meminger comes from a small town in Germany. She had a mom and a brother. But now, she does not because her mother is poor and sends her off to foster care and her brother is dead.

Liesel now lives on Himmel Street. She has two extremely poor foster parents and a best friend.

Liesel never learned how to read, but during her brother's funeral, she finds a book, so she struggles though it and reads it- and falls in love with reading. But she can't afford books, so she reverts to sealing them from the mayor’s wife. She is the book thief.

During the Second World War, Germany was not an ideal place to call home. There are raids and everyone is confused about Hitler.

During the First World War, Liesel's foster dad was saved by a Jewish person, but now, he would not even be conceder a person. But when the only reason why your alive is because of "one of them", how can't you try and protect them?

.............................................................................................................

Saddest book I have ever read.

This book was weird because it was in the point of view of Death, and Death spoiled the book on numerous occasions. Death was an interesting character because Death was not the bad guy. Death felt bad about taking so many lives- human lives.

I think I would have understood this book a lot better if I knew about Nazi Germany, 'cause I was confused! My world war two knowledge probably doubled after reading this book.

"The Book Thief" was an amazing book. The characters all changed. The plot was good. There are tons of conflicts. It was realistic (sort of). I can understand why people think this is a life changing book; it is so different from anything ever written.

However, it is super long and has hard language. This book was written for adults and some of the things Death talks about are depressing, but the Second World War was depressing.

4.88 out of 5 stars
