Princess in love (Meg Cabot)

Mia has always dreamed about having a boyfriend, but now that she has one, there is one major problem; she doesn’t love him.

Instead she likes her best friend’s older brother, Michael. He is a smart, computer genius who may or may not have a girlfriend. So she has decided to wright him anonymous love letters.

Kenny (Mia's boyfriend) still has not asked Mia to the dance at school, which is worst then being with someone she does not love.

Besides her troubling love life, Mia has to study for her algebra final or she is going to fail.

"Princess Amelia" is going to Genovia during winter break. She must try on tones of dresses her cousin designed and learn all of the people who she will meet.

This book was so sweet! It was the best of the series so far.

The author used characterization very well in this book because of how much Mia changed. This made the plot flowier.

However, like the other books, the plot did not take me out of my life and take me into a new world. It seems like the author is trying because she used plot and characterization so well. But it just did not work for me, but I can see how it would for younger people.

Princess in the spotlight (Meg Cabot)

Mia Thermopolis thought she had the worst life ever. Somehow it just got a lot more complicated.

Mia wakes up one morning to learn that the mother is pregnant- with her algebra teacher’s baby.

Well, at least this one should be good at math.

After learning this, the soon- to- be- parents decide to get married, which is the responsible thing, in Mia's eyes, to do.

Then Mia's love life gets started when she starts getting emails from a secret admirer. She is hoping it is Michael, her best friend’s brother, but one can only dream the smartest senior in the school likes them.

Even though Mia's mom and soon- to- be stepfather want to have a quite wedding at city hall where everyone wears their Halloween costumes, Mia's Grandmother wants to have a big, fairy tale wedding for them, and she wants to keep it a surprize until the wedding starts.

It seems like Mia's life is still crazy.

The plot in this book was always changing. But it seemed very disconnected from the characterization of the characters, which was very strange, because usually it’s the opposite. Even though it was weird, it somehow worked for the most part and it made the novel unique.

For warning, these books are nothing like the movies. The movies are all about her becoming a princess, but the books are about things that really go on in the world.

I could really relate to this book because Mia and I are the same age and both first time sisters, which I though was funny and weird. It made the book a lot better because of the one big connection I have to this book.

Just like the first book, it was a little kid book that did not have very many literacy devises, but was still very well written and had a very good theme for little kids.

The Princess Diaries (Meg Cabot)

Mia Thermopolis has the worst life ever- she is the most unpopular girl in her whole school and she is currently failing algebra. Oh, and then her mom starts to date her algebra teacher. It can't get any worst.

But when her dad gets cancer, and learns he will not be able to have any more children, her whole life gets a little worst.

Mia's father is the prince of Genovia, which makes Mia the princess of Genovia. Without her dad able to have any more kids, one day, she will become the Queen of Genovia.

Most people would be thrilled to find out they are the one day going to become Queen, but not Mia. How is a 5"9 Freshmen with really bad hair going to become a Queen?

And anyways, Mia wants to be the leader of Green Peace and go to Iceland to save the seals. But now her dreams are being crashed because apparently she has no choice in what she wants to be. Now she must take the thrown.

Now Lilly, Mia's best friend, is mad at her a d won't talk to her. So she became friends with a girl who has a bodyguard.

There is also a dance coming to her school and she is the only one without a date.
She has the worst life ever!

Or so she though, then the media learns she is a princess.

Her life is over.
.......................................................................................................

This book is made for little kids. So it was not serious at all. There were only a few literacy devices used.

Characterization was big in this book. Mia is a very dynamic character and a very good role model to little kids. Lilly was a round character; she was not a very good role model. But not every character can be. The good thing is she came around.

The theme of this novel is very positive. I can't say anything too bad about this novel because it is very good for little kids.

However, it’s a little kid book. There is absolutely no suspense and it’s not dramatic and the ending is very predictable. There hardly any conflicted and my heart was not ponding while reading the ending. It did not sweep me off my feet and carry me off to a faraway land unlike normal everyday stuff. It was very normal and simple.

I could see the appeal in this book to young kids/ preteens. But it was missing the element of suspense and it did not take me away to a different world. It took me to the everyday life of about half of the kids in my high school. It was still good, though.

Water for Elephants (Sara Gruen)

Jacob Jankowski is an average old grumpy man. But his story is one no one could ever forget.

During the depression, Jacob went to an Ivy league school to become a veterinarian. He had his whole life planned out then. But then his parents died. That’s when his life really started.

Dealing with grieve, he disappeared from his whole life by jumping on a train. Little did he know that he jumped on "The Benzini Brothers Most Spectacular Show on Earth" train. By being on this train, he had to become a member of the circus.

Even though he did not write his final exam, the travelling circus needs a vet to look after the animals so they take him in.

Jacob, however, is slowly falling in love with a married woman, Marlena. At first he just ignores his feelings. But August, her husband, is a horrible person. He feeds the animal’s bad food and sometimes does not feed the workers.

Then everything gets more complicated when the owner of the company, Uncle Al, buys an elephant named Rosie. Jacob, Marlena and August must all take care of Rosie and somehow make her a part of the circus.

This book was amazing!

The author used characterization so well, especially with Walter (one of the performers). She managed to make almost every character a dynamic character, which made the plot less predictable and way more dramatic.

The conflicts were the same throughout the entire book. It was a little strange, since most other books have a few different conflicts, but because of the characters and the always- changing plot, it somehow worked.

The only thing I did not like was the older- Jacob parts. It seemed to put a big downer on the book. Even though everyone knows all the characters will get old, it's still sad reading about it. It made the book not seem like it was not going to have the "happily ever after" (I thought he was going to die at the end of the book) but it did have a "happily ever after" in a way, but I still did not like old- Jacob parts.

The author also used the physical setting to create the emotional setting though the whole plot. It made everything flow well.

Even though the author really used all of the literacy devices, she used characterization the best. It made the book so good!

Fluke (Christopher Moore)

Everyone has a soul purpose in life, whether it’s to have kids or be famous. Nathan Quinn's purpose in life is whales.

However, his whole world is begging to crash because all of the whales are being killed, making it hard to find the answer to his studies: Why do whales sing?

But all of this weird stuff is happing. Someone is putting all of their evidence at risk by sinking their main ship and stealing some of their taps.

Then things start to get even weirder. Nate sees a whale with the words "Bite Me" on his fluke. He is going crazy. That’s the only explanation.

Then he goes missing and Amy and Clay (Nate's Colleagues) think they saw him get eaten by a whale. But that’s impossible because a person can't fit in a whale's throat.

Maybe they are all going crazy.

............................................................................................

This book is unlike all of the other Christopher Moore books I have read. It's believable until about half way through the book. After that, it is way more laid back and weird, just like all of his other books. I really liked how he used a real life thing and made into a funny book.

This book has a big, dramatic plot and lots of dramatic characters; everyone and every conflict was always changing.
I don't think many people would like this book because there was a lot of biology stuff in it. I really liked it though.

I did not like Nate's and Amy's relationship at all. I don't think you should change a relationship at the end of a book and it seems like all of Christopher Moore’s books have that. It makes me mental.

But besides that, it was an awesome book.
